Fall.... Festivals and FIBER!

Yesterday I started a day of working in my fiber studio early, having anticipated some quiet time in which I hoped to get a lot of felting and dyeing done (and I did!). I've got a few days to catch my breath during the week now, with the kids well back into the school groove, but weekends will be nuts for a while.

This coming weekend is the Midway Fall Festival and I always like to have a lot of handmade inventory ready. I'll have alpacas there, along with yarn and fiber, felted hats, woolly soaps, cat toys, nuno felt scarves and shawls, socks, purses, sweaters, blankets, etc. Please introduce yourself if we haven't yet met! In addition, next weekend (the 25th and 26th), Seldom Scene Farm will be at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill for Alpaca Farm Days. We'll be set up with about 15 other Kentucky alpaca breeders to celebrate Alpaca Harvest Weekend and National Alpaca Farm Days at Shaker Village. This is a beautiful setting and always a lot of fun, and I'll have lots of products and alpacas there as well.

As you can see, my colorways have a decidedly fall theme. I love fall for many of the reasons that my friend Dianne does! Hopefully there'll be a bit of crispiness in the air this weekend to get everyone in the fall spirit!

Sleepover

I felt like a kid again, going for a sleep-over at Marti's the other night (along with Mirian). We enjoyed lots of barn/studio time (always inspiring), a great meal, and sitting out on the porch watching the spectacular lightning storm.

The next day we all met up at Shakertown, and I was very grateful that a trailer crisis (the least of which involved a nail in the tire) didn't stop us from riding. Although it was wretchedly hot, we enjoyed a great ride through the woods and meadows of Shakertown and tried to stick close to the creek and took lots of breaks- I always enjoy the stone walls. MB's new horse Cochise (aka Coach) is such a pro, and MuMu (Marti's green horse) is making great progress!

A great time was had by all, and we returned just in time to cool off before another summer downpour commenced.

Movin' and Shakin.... at Shakertown

On Friday, we helped Marti achieve her longtime goal of taking her lovely, young American Paint horse, Mu Mu, to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (aka Shakertown) for his first trail ride away from his home farm. I say "helped", but truly Marti needed no help. Mu was a perfect gentleman after Marti "longlined" him around the stable grounds and then out on the trail with friend Christine and her horse, True. I was truly impressed with the patience and calm that Marti showed, and loved the cute tricks that she's teaching Mu!
MB, Mirian and I headed out on our own for a while to give them time to settle in, enjoying the scenic stone walls at every turn.

Mirian and I ride Kentucky Mountain horses, and MB's awesome boy Gus is gaited as well (believed to be a Paso Fino). By the time we rejoined Marti and Christine, they were riding confidently around the grounds and we went on to enjoy a few more hours together on a perfectly splendid August afternoon.
